The Thinking Man

News Updates

Jan - March 09

Over the past few months Virgo Don has been extremely busy. He travelled to London then to Africa, France then back London. Apart from performing on numerous live shows in these countries Virgo has also been doing lots of studio work. In London he has just finished working on some R&B colaborations and a Musical Animation project (Details to follow).

Oct. - Dec 08

This part of the updates should be called 'Show pon show'. Virgo Don was almost turning shows down as he was getting that much bookings. From the major shows like Pepsi Teen Splash and the Crystal Springs Fun day to the local 'Sessions' Virgo had his hands well and truly full. All performances went well as we say good bye to 2008 and welcome 2009.

July - Sept 08

The response to 'Please Credit Me' on the streets so far has been phenomenal especially since the track is now being played by all the major radio stations in JA (Irie FM, Zip,Hot 102, Hitz 92, etc). Virgo also started promotion on his next release 'Low Mi Nuh' which is being recieved very well. It was actually first aired during an interview with Richie B on Hot 102.

Apr. 08

The promotional campaign kicked off to a great reception as 'Please Credit Me' went up for 'The Verdict' against 2 other songs on ROOTS FM (Dudley Thompson) and won unanimously voted as a "BIG TUNE". We would like to thank all the listeners.

Things keep getting better and better for Virgo Don as 'Please Credit Me' is put to the listeners of HITZ 92 by Denise Hunt and Roderick Howell. The listeners were asked whether to 'Bench or Flex' the track and by unanimous decision voted for definate 'Flexings', large up the Flexadizers (lol).

Mar. 08

The annual Mountain Dew Stunt Festival rolled around again, Virgo Don was asked to perform and "perform" he did. We would like to apologise to the supporters for Virgo not staying on stage longer but we have to follow the show rules. At least we were able to premier the new single 'Please Credit Me' (see Audio Clips to the left). Look out for up coming shows for more great performances.

Jan. & Feb. 08

Virgo Don is busy in the studio writing, recording and producing. So far everything is going great, we even have 2 new hot riddims made and arranged by the Don himself with help from Joe Manics at Yard Back Studio. Watch this space for more info.

Dec. 07

The 26th rolled around and it was back to James Bond Beach for the annual Pepsi Teen Splash. WELL... all we can say is thanks for the LOVE people, the response Virgo Don received was phenomenal (see Video Clips to the left). Pity Virgo was not allowed to perform for longer but, great fun was had by all.

Oct. & Nov. 07

The Motherland beckoned as Virgo went to The Gambia & Senegal. What started as one maybe two shows became two maybe three shows PER NIGHT!!! It was great to see how much love especially Gambians have for Jamaicans. We enjoyed every single minute of it and will make sure to be back soon.

Background

Virgo Don is one of the brightest, most positive and creative up and coming artist in the dancehall arena today. He was born in Birmingham (England) and christened Locksley Brown. His family migrated back to Jamaica when he was still a toddler where he lived and grew up.

Being from a musical background he was automatically drawn to the entertainment scene. Initially he played in school bands and sang on choirs, but it was not until Virgo started singing solo that he really got the bug.

Virgo was then lent a copy of Bob Marley's 'Rastaman Vibration' album. This album had the lyrics printed on the sleeve which gave him his first introduction to writing / written (non-classical) lyrics.

A family friend used to lend Virgo his ghetto blaster and dancehall cassettes. One specific dancehall artist (Papa San), because of his versatility and originality inspired Virgo to enter the dancehall arena. Then many a night would find him sneaking out of the house to go-get his dancehall fix.

That went on until (this being Jamaica) someone told his parents. At first they disapproved until they were given details of how good Virgo really was. They then decided to support their son in his quest for stardom.

From that day onwards Virgo has never looked back. He has blazed a trail and made a solid name for himself in the dancehall scene. Whilst focusing his sights on gaining International acclaim Virgo has always made sure that he remains grounded.

If you have not yet experienced this phenomenal artist at work, we can assure you that you do not know what you are missing. So look out for Virgo Don on a TV, radio, in a record shop or on a stage near you.

Past Work

Virgo Don has had a very busy career in terms of live and studio work. He has worked with almost all the top flight dancehall artist in one capacity or another performing, writing and producing.

Virgo Don successfully defended himself (litigant in person) in a litigation dispute regarding the unauthorized use of his work by a record company. This included a 6 day trial (Patents Court) and 2 days at The Royal Courts of Justice (Appeal Court). All kinds of legal precedence were set that will benefit especially up and coming artiste all around the world. For more info see details here.

Through features (one of Virgo's favorite parts of the business), he has worked with all different musical genres. This has seen him work with everyone from 'up and coming' artist to icons such as Toni Braxton and Erykah Badu.

Virgo has also worked on jingles and adverts for television and radio. To his credit Virgo was also involved in the very successful Kellogg's Rice Krispies Squares AD campaign where his performance was placed on two of the four adverts used for TV, radio and Cinema.

There's a lot more where all that came from so stay tuned.

R.I.P.

The whole team at The Lyrical Sultan would like to send out our heart felt condolences to the family and friends of:

Mrs. Avis 'Nurse' Brown who was not just Virgo Don's mother, she was a mother to all who knew her. To quote "There aren't enough hugs in the world to thank you for your love". You shall be missed dearly.

Also Mr. Augustus 'Supervisor' Sutherland (of Killamanjaro sound and hit tune "Roundness" fame), a truly great friend and person. Your passing is a loss to the world as you had so much left for us all to see.

You both shall be surely missed by all who knew you.
